Dywer Community Garden Construction Humming Along

It was just a few weeks ago when Edison Township announced that they planned to build a new community garden at Dwyer Park in North Edison. They announced it would have over 50 beds making it over 60% bigger than the community garden at Swales Park. Since then, the Department of Public Works has been hard at work preparing the garden. The area was cleared and leveled, and the foundation has been laid. There’s the shed and the pergola is going up. We hope to see the fence coming up, and after that, the beds going in.

We’ve already got a team of volunteers who have sworn a sacred oath to care for the garden and help run it. You can still register for a bed on our webpage.. Come by Dwyer Park at 52 Annette Drive in Edison and take a look at the progress. Then register for a bed, or join our group and volunteer to help us take care of the Swales Community Garden, the Dwyer Community Garden, and all the other gardens that we plan on buiding in our community.

The new storage shed at Dwyer Gardens. It’s the deluxe model with windows. We don’t have windows on our Swales garden shed

One of the four entrances into Dwyer Garden. Edison Township is building paths to all of the entrances. There will be a gate here and a fence to keep the deer out. Sorry deer, those tomatoes are for us.

This is the pergola that’s going in the center of the garden. This will be used for gathering at the gardens and classes. It looks a lot bigger than the one we got at Swales. Not that we’re jealous. Well, maybe a little bit.

With the garden are a lot of other improvements that will greatly enhance Dwyer Park. This is a walking/running path that will go all around Dwyer Park.
